Graduates face difficulties and problems in employment in China——about NTU Employability

China has a large number of graduates from different universities every year, with the increase of population and education level, and the number of these graduates is increasing year by year. Although, the increasing number of graduates represents a positive development in the level of education, it also brings a lot of competition for jobs at the same time.

The competition started with Chinese companies' pursuit of elite graduates, but we still don't know how it will end because this phenomenon is still alive and well and in some ways, it's getting worse than before. What’s more? This situation has also led to the frantic pursuit of elite schools by Chinese parents. Since then, the degree of the university has been not  enough to participate in this competition, more and more competitors with master or even doctor's degree come into the original competition of college graduates, resulting in serious devaluation of the degree. However, due to the social and economic recession, more and more graduates have to face the situation of finding a job. The number of jobs is also starting to shrink as competition for degrees causes more and more students to be stressed out. This leads to an increasingly extreme vicious cycle.

More and more graduates are becoming anxious when looking for a job. Some special jobs, such as art and fashion, even appear to be unable to find work. The first reason is the demand for such jobs in China. As a developing country, China does not have a strong demand and investment in the development of innovative majors such as fashion. This is because the development of the country will put practical majors that are more capable of improving the comprehensive capacity of the country in the first place, while ignoring the demand for and investment in innovative industries. The reduction of the state's attention to the industry will lead to the unsound management norms of the industry. As a result of that a lot of copied works are very popular in the Chinese market. Then the market is lack of original works and designers. Moreover, the awareness of users to respect and protect original works is not enough. Hence, it has also led to the problem that many original designers in the Chinese market are difficult to defend their rights, further allowing a large number of original designers to switch industries, and once again reducing the number of employees in the industry and the living space of practitioners.

The other problem is the unreasonable duration of the internship. Internships in Chinese companies can last between three and six months. At the end of the internship, the company can choose some students to stay in the company based on their performance during the internship. However, at this time, there was another problem, the time of graduation defense conflicted with the time of formal work, and students had to go back to school to complete the graduation related matters when they were about to get a formal job, and companies were not willing to reserve jobs for students. As a result, even students who have a chance of finding a job before graduation, they have to join the graduate job search competition, increasing the number of competitors and wasting their time.

Another problem is the lack of interview opportunities and training in interview skills, which leads many graduates to be afraid of job hunting and interview.

Although more and more universities in China are offering career guidance courses, graduates are still unable to get enough help in finding jobs due to the lack of attention and non-standard courses offered by most of them. When I read on the official website of NTU that it will provide some help for graduates to find jobs, I will feel that it makes me more confident and oriented for my future.
